AMAQ tells doctors not to sign public-private agreement on elective surgeries

Australian Medical Association of Queensland has warned its members against signing new contracts to perform elective surgeries under the public-private partnership model.Doctors are worried there is no end date on many of the contractsThe Queensland Government restarted elective surgery on April 27 following a suspension caused by the response to the coronavirus pandemic.

AMA vice-president Dr Chris Zappala said his members had flagged a number of issues with the new agreements.ABC Radio Brisbane's Rebecca Levingston. "There is no clear end dates or termination clauses for the doctors and there's a range of factors that when you look at it makes no sense whatsoever.""The contracts are at various levels and the parties are the federal, state [governments] and private hospitals," he said.

"The details are not clear in the contract and some examples don't cover the costs of running a surgical practise properly and managing patients properly," he said.
