An Australian couple who spent more than three months detained in Iran have been freed in an apparent prisoner swap deal between the Morrison government and Tehran

.

Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne said the release of an Australian couple after months in jail"is a source of great relief and joy for everyone".The Australian traveller bloggers, who arrived in Perth on Saturday morning, said they were "extremely happy and relieved" to be home after being released from prison with all charges against them dropped.

The pair had been globetrotting since June 2017 and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube.Senator Payne said the government continued to seek the return of a third Australian, Melbourne University lecturer Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert, who had been in detention for a year, having reportedly been handed a 10-year sentence.Mr Firkin and Ms King said while they understood the intense public interest, they requested the media "let us and our families get back to our normal lives".

She said negotiations had been done "discretely" and noted each case of an Australian detained overseas was different and required "a specific and a particular response”.

We gave in to Iran's blackmail. We have now set a precedent. Next time an Iranian national is arrested abroad, the Iranians will just kidnap a tourist or two and demand an exchange.

You two irresponsible fools should be ashamed of yourselves for taking such a risk and having the Australian Government come to your rescue. I hope you pay US the tax pay back somehow.

Such a complete waste of tax payers money. You do not fly a drone in Iran, near a military site and a no fly zone. Idiots

They extradited the Iranian mother after torturing her for 2 yrs and stealing her baby in SA, the USA courts set her free to go home. And they will allow the UK to extradite Julian to the USA if they don't kill him first.

Why go to a country which is unpredictable on any level and do stupid things...unbelievable

Let's not make out that they're the victims here. Happy they are out and home but when you travel, follow the rules.

Australian bloggers Mark Firkin and Jolie King released in IranThe Australian couple held in Tehran for more than three months for allegedly flying a drone over a military precinct have been released. How much does the naivety of its citizens cost the Australian taxpayer each year? Viewing the world through Instagram is probably the dumbest approach to international travel I've encountered so far.
