“We had a White Australia policy. Our positions of power – in politics, media and the judiciary – are held by white people. That’s the context in which racism is occurring and needs to be understood,” he says.If this conversation makes you uncomfortable, Sivaraman is not surprised. “For people who have suffered racism, who are many in this country, you’re denying them the right to be honest about what has happened to them. And that’s almost more insulting.”
