Victorian opposition leader Matthew Guy says today’s record case numbers must not deter the state from reopening next week, as the new Liberal leader prepares to ban one of his MPs from parliament over his refusal to be vaccinated.
The state’s authorised worker mandate comes into effect from Friday and will apply to MPs, meaning any who refuse to get vaccinated will be blocked from attending parliament and voting on bills.Mr Guy confirmed Neil Angus, Liberal MP for Forest Hill in Melbourne’s east, will not get the jab. “He has the right in the Liberal Party rules to disagree with this party if you follow certain processes. He’s done all of that. Don’t agree with this point of view, clearly, but parliament will make that determination and you’ll have to live with that parliamentary consequence.”Mining billionaire Andrew Forrest has continued to spruik Australia’s energy transition to green hydrogen.
