All Bunnings stores across Sydney will shut to the general public after government restrictions forced the retail giant to close outlets in hotspot areas. Follow our live coverage:

The central Victorian city of Shepparton has recorded seven new cases of coronavirus, confirming the emergence of a new cluster in the town, as fears of a statewide lockdown return to the state’s regions.Goulburn Valley Health confirmed on Friday afternoon that seven people in the community had tested positive as authorities attempt to rapidly test the town and residents turn up to stations in their thousands.

“This is not about stopping free speech. This is about stopping the spread of the virus,” Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon said.Police Minister David Elliott warned the gathering risked fuelling transmission of COVID-19 and it might bring together people from right across Sydney. From Monday, stores will only be open for trade customers with retail customers able to access online and contactless click and collect services.New government restrictions coming into effect on Monday require major retail stores like Bunnings to shut their stores in the 12 local government areas of concern, but Bunnings has decided to extend the closures to all Sydney stores.

Health authorities have identified a tutoring centre in Shepparton in regional Victoria as a tier-1 or close contact exposure site. Ms Sheed said more testing services were being set up and she expected residents would rush out to be tested.More than a quarter of Victoria’s COVID cases now under the age of 10Victoria’s Acting Chief Health Officer Ben Cowie says the state’s current COVID-19 outbreak is following “a completely different epidemiological pattern than what we’ve seen previously”.

New Zealand Rugby has cancelled the All Blacks’ trip to Perth this weekend ahead of the third Bledisloe Cup Test. “We remain 100 per cent committed to playing in the entire Fortinet Rugby Championship in 2021 and are working closely with SANZAAR to look at a range of options to reschedule these important matches.“

My local Bunnings has completely SOLD OUT of cheap $4.98 cans of white or black spray paint, Gladysbringsdeath GladysMustGo gladysclusterfuk gladysmustresign scottytheclusterfuk

Thanks Bunnings for treating all citizens the same.

Still chasing their tail.

That’s not true!

NOW it’s a real lockdown

Took them long enough, Jesus fucking Christ

Is Mitre 10 doing same or just Bunnings ?

Good 👍🏻 rules should common across Sydney

What kind of half arsed lockdown are you guys having?

My local is still opened, and thank goodness - I always need urgent supplies for my powerful owl work - and I ain’t no tradie

Great now lets break up the Bunnings monopoly under antitrust laws because there are no lower competition prices that Bunnings can find to 'beat'.

Ok, then why is Marketface still able to operate?

Culldogfarms About time…..

Horse. Bolt. Shut. Gate.

Took a while

Only to general public. Special class of upar human tradies who can never get covid are allowed as they are allowed to go anywhere freely around Sydney to pubs etc. again selective reporting.lockdown only applies to part of nsw population thanks to weak premier GladysB

They’re still open in Port Macquarie and they’ve been listed as a casual contact site. Why are they still allowed to trade? Bunnings Covid nswpolice GladysB NSWHealth

D'uh. Close ALL Bunnings NOW to everything but click and collect. They will be regional hotspots otherwise.

NatarshaBelling thats it its all over

GoldSuzie This NSW government always so late to act! As is The Morrison Government. Try to play catch up and failing miserably

Stunning, masks compulsory and Bunnings restrictions 8 weeks in, these things should occur Day 1, not Day 56 !

GoldSuzie About bloody time!!! 8 weeks in WTF

But what about the sanger sandwiches

What's the difference between Bunnings and Woolworths/Coles/Aldi in terms of retail workers and their exposure to Covid? Does the virus avoid supermarkets?

Too late

They've preyed on public health and wellbeing for far too long.

northway_debbie I stopped going to Bunnings because tradies were waltzing in without checking on or wearing masks. The 'general public' were actually the ones doing the right thing. When I asked the staff about this they pretty much said it is very difficult, pointless to stand up to tradies.

That's OK, I wasn't going there anyway. They have got to cut costs some way.

Finally

MSMWatchdog2013 ResignGladys COVID19Vic covidnsw COVID19au nswcovid19 quitgladys Covid19VicData GladysResign

Does it include Harvey Norman too?

I thought the reason NSWHealth were no longer reporting exposure sites was that retail, shopping centres etc were not significant sites of transmission? Then again they said today people needed to wear a mask outdoors because of ‘fleeting contact’ causing transmission No idea

Thank fuck. Why the fuck were they left open. Bunnings is shit anyway.

Finally the super spreadsheets ng hubs will close

Shitter's broken 🚽🪠

Why now, if as Gladys says they have everything under control?

superscriber What about Harvey Norman? They got 20mil, they can afford a couple of weeks off.

'To the general public' presumably means construction is still essential work?

At last shamed into closing by the public not the premier whose inability to understand the situation goes from bad to worse with promises daily of back to pubs soon in the same breath as closed til the end of September, clearly sun affected mania and Ouija boards rule😎

nsw government should have done this 7 weeks ago and Bunnings should have done it themselves anyway

NatarshaBelling Too late

Bunnings is going to be super super busy this weekend. I need shit like bark, sugarcane, extension cord, pool chemicals and a sausage sizzle sandwich. See you nice and early tomorrow morning Bunnings 😬😬

Bunnings doing what the government will not. Good work bunnings.

superscriber But still fully open this weekend to everyone. Lucky Delta is away until Monday..... GladysTheSuperSpreader

Finally

This will make the lunatic fringe happy

Covid cases are just the beginning!

Perhaps other “essential” retailers could follow suit. To protect their employees mostly.

Why is this only happening now? Why aren't they building temporary emergency hospitals? This govt is quick to rort the public, but slow to plan effectively

FINALLY!!!!

Finally!!! Shutting Bunnings was something COVID19nsw GladysTheSuperSpreader should have done 6 weeks ago!! rookiemistake ScottyDoesNothing

superscriber Finally!

Must be serious if Bunnings are closed!

Guess what shops will be packed this weekend 🤔😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Lol. Too effing late

End lockdown now

Only 8 weeks too late. quitgladys gladysmustresign GladimirSpinchicken

NatarshaBelling Why is this focussed on Bunnings ? … Tte rule applies to major retail stores, nurseries etc.

That’s a bit drastic. Bunnings home delivery is hopelessly slow. Click and collect for a pack of screws? Hardly worth it

Good move. A lot of people want to let it rip, but retail workers and their families shouldn't have to face covid every shift

💁🏼‍♀️Well I hope that extra 8 weeks of trading income was worth it GladysB? Worth shutting down NSW, VIC & the entire fcuking country of New Zealand? 🥵🤬👏🏻🤷🏼‍♀️COVID19nsw COVID19Vic CovidNZ auspol GladysResign GladysFail GladysTheSuperSpreader GladysMustGo gladys 👋🏻RESIGN👋🏻

as long as the GROG shops stay open the world will be OK

Click n Collect is still allowed in your local LGA. 🧘

The old and weak have imposed their constraints on the young & strong, resentment will build.

You realise they’re still open to go in if you have a power pass - all you need is abn to get one

Useless performative nonsense. FFS

Well well It takes many Deaths and 600 cases a day And just now 😳

Oh no. Will have to resort to click and collect, instead of wandering aimlessly around the aisles. 🙄

Too little! Too late!

That's one of the signs of the Apocalypse isn't it?

WA did this day 1 of the first lockdown. Same as play grounds and public use exercise areas. Absolutely rediculous is taken Gladys 8 weeks to do this.

Only 8 weeks too late

Finally! 🤦‍♀

ABOUT BLOODY TIME! Sydney is a joke with its ‘lockdown’. Shut the whole city and let everyone feel what it’s like to be in lockdown! Then they will take this seriously and stop walking along the seaside foreshores without masks. Bloody ridiculous!

There will be pushback now that big businesses are impacted

Good move, be part of the solution

Fuck!!, that is tragic. Such a huge body blow to small and medium sized retailers, hospitality and industry. Sydney and it’s entire population will be broke by then.
