The British Prime Minister has reopened the rift with Paris over the AUKUS defence deal while President Joe Biden has bridged the gap and secured the return of the French ambassador.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Scott Morrison is yet to speak with Mr Macron who has reportedly been rejecting his calls.

Mr Johnson’s statement urging his French counterpart to ‘get a grip’ and ‘give him a break’ stands in contrast to Mr Biden’s more diplomatic approach to tensions over the deal. Despite French anger about the deal, Mr Johnson’s provocative comments went further when he indicated the AUKUS alliance could be broadened to include other security topics.

Mr Johnson went on to say these were the protection of democracy, freedom, human rights, equalities and the rule of law. Mr Morrison has indicated it may take some time for Australia’s relationship with France to recover from AUKUS blow.

Without knowing the REAL Sino threat I agree with Paul. US history makes it hard for us to believe what they tell us. DeborahSnow Keating has always been a fan of China. Penny Wong questions impact of AUKUS deal on Australia's defence autonomyThe Shadow Foreign Minister probes whether AUKUS will impact Australia's 'sovereign capability' as the Vice Chief of the Defence Force prepares to visit South-East Asia to reassure neighbours about the submarine deal. Does the shadow foreign minister understand the threat that's going on? Oh, I sorry .. was Australia ‘ever’ independent militarily? Pretty sure we always depended on the fact that if the shit really hit the fan, the US and/or Britain would came to the rescue … autonomy … really ! The Keating Effect. A lot of back peddling going on.

Sunken French sub deal puts Australia's trade negotiations with the EU in tricky placeThe government says it is not worried about the future of its free trade negotiations with the EU, but a European leader warns French anger may spill over into other trade deals. I hope so, it'll show how ScoMo is stuffing Australia to kiss USA butt We had a chance to look like we are not Pawns in a Pentagon Plot to antagonise China but we weakened and succumbed to US anti China strageies that ignore our trade which is 33% of our O/S business unlike the US with 5% of their business. GrainProducers It could, but it doesn't matter. France was ripping Australia of FFS, we had to cancel the contract. The world was laughing at this ridiculous deal set up by Turnbull.
