A large number of businesses are expected to take a hit during the August reporting season as the coronavirus pandemic sees a drop in guidance and minuscule dividend payments.

Market expectations forecast company earnings will be down roughly 20 per cent with the mining sector leading the charge due to skyrocketing iron ore prices.

ASX likely to fall off the back of 'tough' reporting season | Sky News AustraliaIt is likely the ASX will drop in the aftermath of what is expected to be a tough reporting season, according to Shaw and Partners’ Adam Dawes. \n\nCompanies listed on the ASX will release their latest financial results from the end of July until the end of August.\n\nThe results are expected to show the economic consequences wrought by the novel coronavirus, which has devastated many businesses.\n\n“I do feel we are going to get some really hard numbers, so that might put some shocks into the financial system,” Mr Dawes told Sky News.\n\n“I do suspect our market will potential come off on the back of some of these results\n\n“We know the numbers are going to be bad, but it’s really about the outlook statements.\n\n“If those outlook statements are going to be pared back, or at the lower end, we are going to see a dip.\n\n“I think the market is a little fatigued and I think we will potentially see a fall in the market after the reporting season at the end of August.”\n This is expected.
