As thick plumes of smoke blanketed Brazil's most populous city Sao Paulo, global attention turned to the cause.

The Brazilian government, which has been criticised for winding back protections of the Amazon, sent in the army and slapped a temporary ban on fires used to clear land. The sheer size of the Amazon, and those fires that engulfed it, can be hard to comprehend. But from this far up, you can start to get a better sense of the scale.

Just one month later, that figure had almost tripled to more than 46,000 fires. The fire season was so-far the worst in almost a decade. As more and more fires flared up, thick plumes of smoke began pouring from the Amazon into the air. Many of the tens of thousands of fires that were detected in the Amazon in August were lit by farmers.

Fake news

I am getting to a point of ignoring the media, seeing for oneself is the only way to get the truth. The media plagiarisers stories, use file photos and stories end up being personal opinions of some reporters. Not to mention corporate advertorials published as stories.

The whole Amazon thing was confected propaganda by the left of politics against a goverment who is right wing, in comparison. The actual data on what was burning never supported the assertion that there was a significantly rapid & larger burnoff of virgin jungle areas this year.
