Only a couple of millimetres of rain are expected to fall in storms forecast for Queensland's Darling Downs this afternoon, but the BOM warns lightning could ignite more fires.

The high temperatures and"gusty erratic winds" could make conditions as dangerous for fires as they were across south-east Queensland last week."The trough will move quickly and is likely to hit the coast around midnight tonight before it heads out to sea."

ABC Emergency has sourced advice from official agencies on how to plan for a bushfire, including preparing a survival kit. Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said arson was suspected and that officers were closing in on the culprits thanks to tip-offs from locals.
