Industry experts express concern as major arts attractions shut their doors. 'There exists the very real possibility that in the absence of timely support ... the industry will be much smaller in a month's time.'

Major cultural hubs across Melbourne have taken drastic action and gone into lockdown for at least a month in response to rising fears surrounding the spread of coronavirus.

"From our team here at NGV, we’d like to express our very best wishes to our community during this challenging time. In a precautionary measure, that considers the current public health situation, we are closing the NGV to the public, effective tomorrow Monday 16 March until 13 April. If you have pre-purchased tickets for current exhibitions or upcoming programs, our team will be in contact with you shortly." a statement read.

The company's chief executive officer Claire Spencer said the cancellations and closures would remain in effect for four weeks. “Every ounce of our beings as arts workers is to raise the curtain on the next spectacular performance; ‘the show must go on’ is our battle cry as an industry,” she said.

How will Morrison's COVID-19 response be remembered in the annals of economic history? There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution for economic crises, and historically our attempts to boost the economy in tough times have sometimes arguably done more harm than good, writes Gareth Hutchens. The annuls of history will file it the same as the rest of his Prime Ministership; in the Joke Section. Sat on his hands and waffled his way through whilst waiting to copy other countries plans, like NZ. Very-very messy. We need him to be a Statesperson not a pollie. COVID19Aus I'm glad that ScottMorrisonMP is PM through this. Can you image EachWayAlbo trying to deal with it? We'd be waiting 30 years for a response.

The PM's 'f-word' misread the public mood on COVID-19When it comes to coronavirus there is a fine line between advising calm and urging action. David Speers clearly knows best and would make the bestest PM. We should propel him into office immediately to solve all the problems. is conflating the coronavirus deployment, and the terminal state of the Australian economy, and (falsely) reporting it as an undeniable fact. This alone should display the utter contempt this propaganda outlet has for the Australian public. How does the abc assess 'public mood'? Is it just the usual safe space echo chamber banter at Ultimo?
