The European Union says having common charging ports would reduce waste and increase convenience but Apple claims the change will be bad for consumers worldwide.

The European Union aims to have a common charging port for mobile phones, tablets and headphones under a European Commission proposal, with the move impacting iPhone maker Apple more than its rivals. The regulation would require USB-C connectors to become the standard port for smartphones, tablets and camerasThe European Union says it will save consumers more than $400 million

Under the Commission's proposal, a USB-C connector will become the standard port for all smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld videogame consoles. The EU executive will revise its eco-design regulation in the near future so that the external power supply is interoperable, which is the last step for a common charge.

It also voiced concerns about the 24-month transition period for companies to comply with the legislation once it is adopted."We gave industry plenty of time to come up with their own solutions, now time is ripe for legislative action for a common charger. This is an important win for our consumers and environment and in line with our green and digital ambitions," Commission Vice-President Margrethe Vestager said.

Excellent, standardisation has great benefits, it's time Apple got over themselves!

I remind the trouble among the electricity's plugs.

While standardisation is good, regulating the type of cable could impact new and faster cable design in future if EU needs to approve it first 🤔

Apple needs to catch that shit up

That's great initiative by EU. I fully support standardization for interchangeability.

Good idea! Do it...

Always nice to see Apple cop a slap.

Apple coping

Their charge cords go to shit by the 2nd month & their iPhone users go around asking everyone with Samsung at work for a charge cord to borrow.

Top EU leader rebukes Scott Morrison during awkward New York encounterAs more countries openly criticise the new AUKUS defence pact, European Council President Charles Michel reminded the Prime Minister of the need for “transparency and loyalty”. “Transparency and Loyalty”, what’s that? Surely those are weak concepts of foreign countries. Like Parisians. Or French. Don’t fall for it Scotty! Stay true to yourself! Bumble bum Scotty will ignore that and charge on. His main aim is to see his old mentor Trump and kiss Rupert’s ring.

French envoy to return to US but no word on Australian counterpartBoth heads of state 'have decided to open a process of in-depth consultations, aimed at creating the conditions for ensuring confidence.' 9News The Anglo mob have been falling out with the French mob for thousands of years. Why would it be different with the Anglo-American Biden and the Frenchman Macron? It’s a broken commercial contract for an arms deal and compensation will be paid as it routinely is for any broken contract. France should grow up and stop acting like this is some major breach of trust let alone ‘treason’ France killed two Greenpeace activists in New Zealand who were opposing Nuclear bombs being detonated in the South Pacific. Think that’s a lot worse than breaking a contract.

Tradie protesters told to ‘go pick fruit’An outraged trades union boss has made a bold suggestion to workers who choose to cause carnage instead of protest peacefully. Union thugs This was not a protest... it was an organised piss up and riot 1 day he says they r not in the union, the next he says they wont get union jobs, then he says they should pick fruit. Is this what union protection paying about $800 a year in fees gets u? A guy being investigated 4 beating up his wife shouldn't be condemning others for violence
