Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has defended the size of the state's public health unit before the coronavirus pandemic took hold in March

Premier Daniel Andrews has defended the size of the state's public health unit before the coronavirus pandemic took hold in March, despite top bureaucrats warning last year it was the nation's worst-resourced infection control team.revealed on Thursday that Victoria had only 14 contact tracers in March, despite health officials revealing that even doubling the staff "would still see Victoria as the least resourced state".

Mr Andrews said he "would not accept" concerns the public health team, led by Professor Sutton and central to the coronavirus fight, was not appropriately resourced, pointing to the pandemic being a rare event. The Department of Health and Human Services prepared a document last year comparing Victoria's resourcing with other states and territories, as part of a push for extra funding.

As long as taxpayer funds are being spent on rainbows and unicorns, who cares about the health of the Victorian people.

These political opportunists disgust me. Where is the political leadership in the opposition? They should be supporting public health efforts to get this pandemic under control. Their immaturity and lack of leadership is very striking. Please remember that at the next election.
