Premier Daniel Andrews has defended the size of the state's public health unit before the coronavirus pandemic took hold in March, despite top bureaucrats warning last year it was the nation's worst-resourced infection control team.revealed on Thursday that Victoria had only 14 contact tracers in March, despite senior bureaucrats warning the Andrews government last year that even a doubling of current staff numbers "would still see Victoria as the least resourced state".
"Sometimes that's standing here, sometimes it isn't," Mr Andrews said. "There hasn't been a public health team person here every day." "There are always bids for additional resources – there's not a person in the health system that doesn't bid for more money ... ultimately you've got to make a decision," Mr Andrews said.
It also highlighted the flaws with Victoria's centralised public health team, pointing to the NSW and Queensland model in which there are 15 local health districts, each with their own public health units.
Dan's Public Health system is a big sheltered workshop, they could not have handled an outbreak of pubic lice.
The pandemic has become a political point scoring competition, the flames being fanned by the LNP loonies in Canberra, this is no way to try and win votes, pathetic.
Not only poorly resourced but also full of dopes who have NFI what they're doing. Remember initial advice about masks? What treatments have they brought from OS? Or are we just letting everyone die in hospital?

What happened to flattening the curve?
The states have been pleading with the Feds for the past decade to get additional health funding but it always gets knocked back. I do wish they get rid of Medicare and all you right wing LNP blue collar workers have to pay for medical expenses.
Health care in Australia is managed by the Federal Government. The buck stops with Scumo. Abbott stripped $1b when he was health minister. He wanted to destroy Medicare when PM. The LNP have always hated universal health. Bob Hawke implemented MEDICARE when Fraser got rid off it.
We need to hear from more medical professionals on this issue of under staffing, including nurses.
Six months Pre Virus their finances must have been sinking. Why else would they cut $4 Billion out of Victoria's Public service?
NSW is only a little less lean than we were and they seem to be state of the art in their contact tracing

He can try to reject the facts as much as he wants, the truth is the team was the smallest in the country. As stated, even doubling its resources would still have left it the smallest in the country. He was 'happy' with its size before the pandemic? Time to pay the piper!
