The Prime Minister has offered his views on the Greens' push for a two-year nationwide rental freeze after being asked whether he supported the proposal 'in principle'.

"Countries like Scotland and Canada have used rent freezes and controls to protect residents against massive rent increases, while even Victoria froze rents during the pandemic."

"We've got families sleeping in their cars, workers unable to afford a home near where they work, people being evicted from their homes because they can’t afford 20% rent increases," Mr Chandler-Mather said. "Rent control has a seductive, intuitive appeal which is that if you basically cap rent increases, then you're going to protect renters that are struggling to pay higher rental costs," Mr Coates said.

Do landlords get to freeze their rising mortgage interest payments too ? I reckon not.

They need to build houses ASAP. Housing Trust and private housing. Temporary accommodation for families unable to find housing too. We can’t have families with kids living out of cars or tents in caravan parks. This is a real problem that needs addressing now. Like yesterday.

I can see a rush to sell property if this lunacy was to get up.

The Greens pushing an idea from the communists playbook, what a surprise.

'Put the rent up as much as you can, while you can' That's all I heard
