The prime minister will hold a national cabinet meeting after being heckled at a Canberra rally protesting again a “national crisis” of gendered violence.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will convene a meeting of the national cabinet on Wednesday to discuss plans to tackle what he called a “national crisis” of male violence against women.

“Governments of all levels must do better including my own and every state and territory government. We are here to say that society and Australia must do better,” he said to applause. Mr Dreyfus and Ms Rishworth faced questions about a royal commission over the weekend, indicating it was better to focus on current measures, including the 10-year National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children.
