The AFL will be staying on Foxtel and Network Seven screens until 2031 after Gillon McLachlan secured the biggest TV rights deal in Australian sporting history on Tuesday.

AFL chief executive officer Gillon McLachlan revealed on Tuesday afternoon the deal would deliver a return of $4.5 billion over seven years from 2025 to 2031 with that money said to make the game more affordable and accessible.

Picture: Getty Images As the details of the deal were revealed the AFL CEO was flanked by several executives involved in the deal including AFL Chairman Richard Goyder, Chair of Foxtel Group Siobhan McKenna, CEO of Foxtel Group Patrick Delaney, Seven Network’s Kerry Stokes, Seven Network CEO James Warburton and Telstra Executive Kim Krogh Andersen.

Foxtel and Kayo have also secured a Super Saturday partnership – which mirrors its agreement with the NRL – where it will own all Saturday matches in the first eight rounds of the AFL meaning it has exclusive rights to the games in all Saturday timeslots. The first 15 rounds of the AFL premiership season will feature Thursday night matches and they will be televised live on the Seven Network and the 7Plus digital.Fans with free-to-air TV will also be able to view all marquee matches including the Dreamtime, Anzac Day eve, Anzac Day, Good Friday and Easter Monday Queen's birthday plus three additional marquee matches such as the season opener and the Queen's birthday eve.
