The deal is expected to keep the AFL with Seven and Foxtel for seven years.

The AFL has signed a record broadcast deal with free-to-air network Channel Seven and pay TV provider Foxtel which will keep the prized football rights locked up with the two networks for seven years.

The AFL under departing chief executive Gillon McLachlan signed the deal with Seven and Foxtel on Tuesday. It will mean games continue to be broadcast on the networks for seven years starting from the 2025 season. The deal is expected to be worth more than the $2.5 billion the networks paid to secure the rights in 2017, which was extended at the start of the pandemic. Details are expected to be announced at a press conference at 3pm on Tuesday.

Nine bid pushes AFL broadcast rights into record territoryThe bid does not necessarily signal a change in broadcast partners for the AFL, with multiple sources saying the AFL has been in discussions about a huge six or seven-year deal with incumbents Seven and Foxtel. JakeNiallTHEAGE ColinJKruger Love to see Foxtel lose the footy. They have forced us to have less free to air every time they get it JakeNiallTHEAGE ColinJKruger The more paid the more the broadcasters will lock up games behind paywalls. That is not good for the sport. Leave 7 with footy. Give cricket back to 9 and BBL to 10.
