City of Sydney Council has allocated $310,000 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, women and children who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Advocates are concerned homeless groups, particularly Indigenous women, are not forgotten after lockdowns ease in Australia.

“Everyone deserves a home. There is a pressing need in the city for affordable rental housing for lower-income households, and this need has been intensified by the pandemic,” City of Sydney’s Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.'Just a nightmare': Calls for more affordable housing to combat growing homelessness in Australia

The COVID-19 pandemic intensified homelessness across the country, and state governments assisted rough sleepers by providing them with temporary accommodation. Ms Robinson commended the City of Sydney for providing a more holistic approach to homelessness for women.with a 30 per cent rise in the issue over the past five years, but the issue remains largely ignored.

Ms Robinson said she welcomes the funding, but added homelessness is a more profound problem that cannot be solved by one local council.

Grace Tame excluded from drafting of national plan to prevent child sexual abuseAustralian of the Year Grace Tame reveals live on television that she has been excluded from consultation on the final formulation of the federal government's national strategy to prevent child sexual abuse. Why not have Cardinal Pell, Andrew Laming and Christan Porter in the advisory committee? Couldn't get any worse. The federal government’s good at excluding things. They’ve done the same with COVAX-19, an Australian made vaccine. Of course, you can't possibly have an expert help make policies, that would be strange.
