The ACT's Emergency Services Commissioner says she never gave firefighters to NSW to help battle blazes that broke out inside Territory borders because they were never asked for.Residents of rural Bumbalong on the ACT-NSW border say failures during the summer bushfires resulted in lost homes
It also highlighted the frequent frustrations firefighters experienced being unable to communicate with teams just over the border. "We had been regularly working with each other throughout the season and requesting support as required," Ms Whelan said. At the beginning of February, The Orroral Valley fire that had begun in Namadgi National Park spread into NSW, ultimatelyA deputy captain for the local rural fire service branch, Mr Templeton said communication issues began before the Orroral Valley fire had even crossed the border into NSW.
"I think because the fire was heading south and east towards us and not towards Canberra, the ACT ignored it," Mr Templeton said.
I am absolutely gobsmacked ....why not offer assistance? The fires were a catastrophic event.
I remember RFS head Shane Fitsimmons angry response when he heard that Scomo had offered ADF assistance. Like Covid we now know we are 8 separate countries where the federal government has little control over state responses. It's easier to blame each other that way.
They have to ask?. Wouldn't you offer up resources or spare capacity especially to neighbouring state. Sounds like the wrong person in the job of commissioner. abccanberra 7NewsCanberra 7NewsSydney 9NewsCanberra canberratimes ABarrMLA ACTFireRescue ACT_ESA

Qantas boss calls Queensland border announcement 'ridiculous'The boss of Qantas says Queensland&x27;s decision to keep borders closed to Sydneysiders is "ridiculous" and will cost the state millions of dollars as people make other plans. Will it cost qantas anything....... Did you get comment from competing views? Maybe public health. Sydneysiders can still spend money travelling elsewhere. About as ridiculous as him putting his hand out for taxpayers $$$ from this corrupt government, then sacking 12k workers. I would listen more to a guy that has taken my qantas shares from $1.21each to $4.20 during a Chinese pandemic than i would that joke of a government in Queensland
