The competition regulator will not oppose the $24 billion takeover of Sydney Airport by a group of superannuation funds and global investors, according to Sky News business reporter Edward Boyd.

The ACCC has given the deal the green light as, even though the chief believes airports are a “monopoly” because it is often the city’s only terminal, Sydney Airport was not deemed to be run any differently than hubs in other major cities.

The deal is now able to be voted upon by shareholders who will do so in February next year, and more than 75 per cent will need to vote in favour for it to go through.
