Customers who abuse workers once Queensland's COVID-19 vaccine mandate for cafes, restaurants and pubs comes into force from December 17 will be slapped with hefty fines - and could even face jail time.

Yvette D'Ath announced the hefty penalties on Tuesday as the Sunshine State prepares to welcome double-dosed domestic travellers, who will not be required to undergo two weeks of quarantine, from December 13.

“17 December is going to be a great day for so many people in Queensland who get to go out and enjoy the lifestyle that we love so much. Ms D'Ath said the coastal region continues to lag behind the rest of Queensland with its vaccination rates – despite being geographically most at risk.

It wasn't due to the mandate itself.... man the SMH has already gone downhill since it got a new chief editor.
