The Menzies Research Centre’s Nick Cater says it is “extraordinary” that the Liberal Party promised to go to 50 per cent renewable energy.

‘Absolutely impossible’ to achieve 50 per cent by 2030 without a radical change to the economy

“If a Liberal leader wants to present a target like that, he has an obligation to show us how it can be done and how it can be done without raising energy prices,” he told Sky News host Rita Panahi. “Because if he’s got a way of doing that, he’s a genius because it has not been done anywhere else in the world.

Hard right extremist agency, never very good at logic. Only good at hate. No wonder the ribs are unelectable

Chris Bowen says nuclear is too dear & renewables are the only answer. The Rolls-Royce SMR would cost around 3.2 BAUD to generate 470 MWe. Say Australia uses about 32,000 MW that equates to ~70 plants or ~225 BAUD. CSIRO says just upgrading the power network is 500-1,000 TAUD

I still believe that nuclear energy has to be a component of the solution. But I also understand that Australians will first need to be brought around to believe that it is the most environmentally responsible solution.

what about striving for cheaper power prices, that might work
