The ABC has declined to provide a figure for how much taxpayer funds are used to defend defamation cases each year, despite racking up a $780,000 bill in a matter of months defending its Christian Porter coverage.

Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton said a core problem with the ABC was the “extremely opaque” way it spends taxpayer funds. “This is the real problem with the ABC,” he said. “It is extremely opaque when it comes to how it uses taxpayer dollars to defend journalism that never should have been published in the first place.

“It took a senate hearing to extract the cost of the Porter debacle from the ABC and there appears to be no accountability for how often taxpayer funds are wasted in this way. “There was no need to rush to publish the Porter allegations and in my opinion Milligan should have had more evidence before airing allegations she knew were unprovable.

How much will Duttons defo case cost him ( or the taxpayer). How much is Porter (or the taxpayer) paying for his defo with JoDyer and his own costs re the ABC? Consistency in reporting is a sign of a liberal democracy.

'despite racking up ' The criticism should lie with Porter for bringing wasteful, hopeless action

Your ire should be directed at Porter who launched the proceedings groundlessly, achieving nothing bar adding to the long list of LNP profligate misuse of public funds.

The Scott Morrison government has cost us $1.8 billion due to it’s shameful mismanagement of robodebt. Where’s your outrage? Scottythefukwit LNPDisgrace LNPTortureParty LNPRobodebt auspol

And .. MorrisonsPredators

How does Murdoch Media compare the ABC’s ‘waste of taxpayer money’ defending itself against Christian Porter—who chose NOT have his day in court—with the Morrison government’s wasted $1.7 BILLION for its legally-determined unlawful robo-debt system?

They won't be reporting about DictatorDan getting beaten up at Fox's house for inappropriate behaviour towards a female guest , will they .

A lot less than we pay Murdoch. Piss off sky

Jack (your turn to do the Friday ABC rant) ... What would be more interesting is the amount of money Scott Morrison & co spent on consulting and PR in defending Christian Porter? Christian Porter ended up wasting taxpayer money in his failed legal attempt that went no where.

So in monetary payout terms, would that make 1 Christian Porter worth 3 Miranda Devines?

Lololo maybe we should get Sky to open the books and see what's more value for money shall we?

ABC’s ‘double-standard’ on publishing investigative journalism | Sky News AustraliaThe ABC’s Paul Barry appears to have a “double-standard” when it comes to defending reporting by the national broadcaster, according to Sky News Australia Digital Editor Jack Houghton.\n\nThe Australian’s Sharri Markson has been leading the world with her coverage of the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.\n\nInternational newspapers have followed her lead, including with revelations employees at the Wuhan Institute of Virology fell ill and were admitted to hospital in November 2019, prior to the first recorded COVID-19 case.\n\nMr Houghton said that Barry had been on a taxpayer funded “crusade” to discredit Markson’s work, mainly her reports which mention the theory that the virus originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.\n\n“While the ABC may be happy to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars defending the publication of unprovable allegations, it appears to have a double-standard when it comes to actually important investigative journalism,” Mr Houghton said.\n\n“This demonstrates a contrast between how much evidence you need to publish life-destroying allegations against a conservative politician and how much evidence you need to raise questions about the biggest global catastrophe in living memory.” Houghtontweets appears? Japan shows it’s a ‘strong ally’ of Australia by supporting pushback against China | Sky News AustraliaSky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says Japan is showing it is a “strong ally” of Australia by supporting pushback against China, particularly for it’s bans on Australian goods. \n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison has always said China’s bans on Australian goods should be adjudicated within the World Trade Organisation and will have the chance to make his case at the G7 summit, according to Mr Greenwood. \n\n“He’s certainly assisted and aided in this by not only the United States … but also by Japan, again giving assistance to Australia and saying … there’s got to be pushback against China, against its taking over of islands and parts of the South China Sea,” he said. \n\n“But also, when it comes to dealing with trade with Australia. \n\n“Japan, by doing this, clearly again is showing itself to be a strong ally of Australia right now and this is key if Australia is to get itself back on track with China … in terms of trade”. \n Ross_Greenwood More MurdochGutterMedia crap! 💩 Ross_Greenwood Did Biden know he was in the video conference? ABC’s ‘anti-Israel indoctrination of kids’ sees Jewish group submit formal complaint | Sky News AustraliaJewish groups have pointed out the ABC’s “anti-Israel bias” has turned up in its educational program Behind the News – “indoctrinating kids against Israel” – according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.\n\nThe taxpayer-funded national broadcaster’s educational program, Behind the News, is produced for school-age kids and is often shown to them in the classroom.\n\nMr Kenny pointed to one segment of the program in which commentary pointed out Israelis have the ability to protect themselves from rockets while Gaza does not.\n\n“No mention that the rockets fired indiscriminately from Gaza started the conflict and actually targeted civilians,” he said.\n\n“And then we hear about Israel hitting targets, and we hear from a woman talking about children straight away as if they’re the targets, rather than the terrorist targeting that Israel focuses on.\n\n“This is pretty typically jaundiced stuff, but this is directed at Australian children.”\n\nMr Kenny spoke with Jeremy Leibler from the Zionist Federation of Australia about the issue.\n\n“We’ve submitted a formal complaint, and we’ve also written to the managing director,” Mr Leibler said.\n\n“This follows – two weeks ago – ABC on its flagship program, discussing the conflict, where the panel was so stacked that there was no attempt whatsoever to have any alternative voice of reason on the panel.\n\n“It was a horror movie.” Is Chris Kenny a Jew? I'd show the episode to my kids if they didn't already have strong nationalist opinions. Turds like Kenny will be flushed in a right wing Australia (like that pun?) Chris Kenny is a Murdoch propagandist. Of course Kenny and SkyNewsAust will smear our Australian ABC. That is what Murdoch hard right extremists do... Disinformation and smear. MurdochRoyalCommission now auspol This bias has to be eliminated and a start would be the merger of ABC &SBS, with culling of excess staff not required. The Jews in Australia have every right to protest at the grotesque actions of the ABC.

We must stop China
