Three A-League players are under arrest and set to be charged following a NSW Police investigation into alleged “yellow card manipulation” in four matches this season. The investigation found a senior player was allegedly instructed by a man believed to be in South America to “organise for yellow cards to occur during certain games in exchange for profit”. It is alleged the players manipulated the number of yellow cards during games on November 24 and December 9.

A 33-year-old is expected to be charged with two counts of engage in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome of an event, and two counts of facilitate in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome of an event. The other two players, aged 27 and 32, are expected to be charged with engage in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome of an event. In a statement, Football Australia said the three players were expected to face court on Friday afternoon.
