'Not a great look': Peter Dutton suggests Anthony Albanese should offer the Sydney tenant he is evicting lodging in Kirribilli House
The small business owner said the termination of lease letter was a “crippling blow” after Labor announced a $1.9 billion package in the 2024-2025 federal budget to help relieve rental pressure for struggling Australians. “Why can’t he move into Kirribilli, I guess, there’s a few spare bedrooms there if Albo’s, you know, got the generosity genes going,” Mr Dutton told Sky News host Erin Molan. The Opposition leader then spruiked the Coalition’s pre-election commitment to address the housing shortage.
Mr Albanese said he had been a"fair" landlord to the small-business owner. "He has every right to seek to sell his assets… but it just doesn’t sit well when, on one hand he’s trying to be sympathetic with the majority of Australians who are, like me, finding the current climate extremely challenging,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
