Opposition Leader Peter Dutton shared a “soul-destroying” story during his budget reply speech, emphasising the “heartbreaking” side effect of Labor ’s housing crisis.
“For almost 20 years I have chaired my local Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, two weeks ago at our annual fundraising breakfast I heard a heartbreaking account of a man in his seventies having to live in his car,” Mr Dutton said.“It’s sad, but it is not an uncommon story and it's one that I’ve heard at Foodbank and at many places around our great country."
“Australians are struggling to find homes to rent and buy and it's not always due to a lack of money,” Mr Dutton said. However, the Coalition leader emphasised Australians needed a helping hand to secure housing for themselves in an increasingly tight market. “First we will implement a two-year ban on foreign investors and temporary residents purchasing existing homes in Australia.
