'A disastrous campaign': GetUp and unions claim just two seats despite record spend auspol ausvotes2019

A massive campaign by GetUp and the union movement has failed to dislodge tens of government MPs who had been targeted in a "hit list", raising questions over the future of third party activist groups in election campaigns.

GetUp claimed just one victory from its seven-electorate hit list - independent Zali Steggall defeated former prime minister Tony Abbott in the Sydney seat of Warringah - while the Australian Council of Trade Unions managed only one win from a 16 seat wish list - the NSW seat of Gilmore.Credit:GetUp national director Paul Oosting said the result was "obviously disappointing as it shows fear campaigns have successfully divided us.

Opponents say GetUp's $4 million election spend was misguided because the organisation targeted individuals and discussed election issues that were out of touch with voters' interests. "They picked the issues that weren't the most important issues to Australians - Australians were more worried about the cost of a 50 per cent renewable energy target than they were about helping the environment."

They don’t deserve a seat

Australia is not and never will be green/left. More importantly, we will not be bullied and spoken down to by globalist elitists like get up or union thugs

Could it be the electorate saw through the nasty bitchy sledging - Wong “small men with small........” Plibersek....no vision for Australia, just nasty, school girl bitchy attacks on any thing Liberal. Dreyfus - 6 years of childish legal attacks that amounted to nothing.

Get up yourselves.......ScoMo won, you can all forget about petty sledging re Turnbull, Abbott.....the REALLY big issue is the Labour Heirachy....taking a man to an election nearly 10 points behind his opponent as preferred PM. REALLY, what did you think the outcome would be.....

Sucked in

Pfft, a couple of weeks ago The Age would’ve been full of stories as to how “Get Up” are the new force in Aus politics. Not being a real party, they have no economic policies and ppl see thru them now. As for the Unions, big changes rqd, I’m afraid.

“GetUp national director Paul Oosting said the result was ‘obviously disappointing as it shows fear campaigns have successfully divided us’” You mean fear campaigns like telling people the END IS NEAR because we’re facing a cLiMaTe CriSiS & if you don’t vote our way you’re evil?

TonyAbbottMHR is gone.

Australia deserves better than these GetUp grubs. They would still be running with their tails between their legs.

‘Get Up’ need to either become a proper party or ‘get out’. They are non democratic and not in Australia’s interest.

Maybe people are getting sick of these activists telling them what to do/think. Might be time for these activists to go & get a real job & start contributing to our economy. auspol AusVotes2019

Union members are “proud of what they achieved” ....... despite achieving nothing. Maybe this is why the people are sick of their s%t

It’s fun to watch lefties lose. They are usually the ones who don’t respect democracy and whinge about the outcome.

Climate change you say? Take it from AOC in America. NOBODY CARES! This election be like: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
