Qantas had earlier offered him a one-off payment of $NZ35,000 following the incident but Mr Maiava said he had been advised against accepting it because it would have prevented him from taking part in any class action in the US against Airbus and Northrop Grumman."The doors are closed – I'm devastated. That's why I think, 'what have I done to deserve this'?" he said. "It's been 11 years of hell. The system let me down.

TACHO. Too much reliance on technology not enough of his own skills. I have seen too many Aircraft Crash Investigations episodes to want to fly anymore in airliners. I am now a student pilot in RAA, my training aircraft has all “steam” gauges. Will never fly with glass cockpit. I am the pilot and the buck stops with me, not a heap of computers.
