After providing rounds and rounds of documentation over a seven-week period, Australian poet Fiona Wright was told she could not take her assistance dog aboard a Qantas domestic flight.

Acclaimed Australian poet Fiona Wright has had to cancel her appearance at the Northern Territory Writers' Festival after Qantas told her she could not take her trained assistance dog on board.

"After filling in an eight-page form, written in language so dense I had trouble understanding any of it, they’ve asked me for more documentation, and then more documentation again." "And all to no avail. All of my evidence that my dog is a fully-trained and certified assistance dog is not enough for Qantas. At no stage have they specified precisely what evidence would count."

Ms Wright said other airlines have allowed her dog on board, with, for her, Qantas the only exception.

The organisation doesn't hold the correct accreditation for the animal to be considered a genuine service dog. Simple. If the organisation gets the right documentation, no problem

Good on Qantas for maintaining standards. Otherwise airplane cabins will be full of dogs supporting their owner’s neuroses!

Assistance dogs a much better behaved then some of the public. Shame on you Qantas

Given that assistance dogs are provided for a myriad of disabilities ranging from anxiety to PTSD [1]I suppose airlines are fearful that a plane might one day be filled with pax + pet. 1.

The reason why the major parties are looking to the pastOpinion: Howard knows more than most about times of desperation and Keating has proved to be in peerless form, both as assailant of conservatives and soother of his party's anxious heart, writes Tony Wright. Aah how I miss the cut and thrust of these two going at it. It's probably the 24/7 news cycle has made the current politicians lazy when it comes to substance and the ability to tear the other down in a couple of sentences. Keatings constant resort to abuse as an argument rather than intelligent debate would in modern times place him in the category of Troll

Much ado about an egg - at least it wasn't a potato, Mr MorrisonEgging of politicians shouldn’t be encouraged or excused, but everything’s relative: an egging to the noggin barely compares with a potato-ing. Or the end of life as we know it | OPINION by Tony Wright Maybe not - but it's the start of a very slippery slope. That egg had good morals! I think he's a candidate for the rough end of the pineapple.

Staggering thing Qantas left off flightPlastic bottles, plastic-wrapped blankets, plastic cups, plastic cutlery, plastic stirrers, aluminium containers, disposable toothbrushes, and all topped off with umpteen paper towels. For anyone who is even remotely eco-conscious, the staggering waste that one passenger can produce on an average flight is pretty horrifying. Now, imagine a different kind of in-air experience, one without the guilt, where single use plastics and bulging rubbish bags destined for landfills are a thing of the past, and instead, compostable cups, food containers and cutlery, are the go. Well, if Qantas has its way, it’ll be a reality sooner than you think. The LNP would say why should we do this first when we make so little difference. We should wait until the rest of the world has done it. CEO'S Leaving! Don’t care, as don’t fly joyce......

‘Bang and sparks’ on Qantas flightA Qantas flight departing Tokyo bound for Sydney was forced to divert and land in Cairns after passengers heard a “loud bang” from their aircraft’s engine. Thats the thing with Qantas their fleet is ageing and I avoid them where I can. This aircraft is a 747-400 and most airlines in the world retired that aircraft type years ago. That model first came to service in 1989.

'Decouple' drought assistance Farm Household Allowance from social security, review saysA fortnightly welfare payment, considered to be the cornerstone of drought assistance, should be removed from social security legislation, a review recommends. Tories hate socialism until they get a handout Keep ur F***** hands of our SS that we payed for, with the Understanding this was a separate fund, that no one had a right to touch! 'One farmer described Centrelink and social security as 'catering to unemployed wage-earners' rather than employed business owners.' This person has obviously never been on hold for eight hours listening to tinny classical music.
