Until April 9, we will present an exciting program of digital art events and an online exhibition of our participating galleries. All artworks presented are available for sale via the “inquire” button.Enter your e-mail below to subscribe to our newsletter:Behind the White Curtain is an installation-performance at the Scuola di San Pasquale Baylon; a building for a confraternity founded in either 1625 or 1627.
For the artists presented in the collection, the white curtain could be understood as a metaphor for the ideal exhibition space, absent of any unwanted context. For the Lithuanian public, the performance could become a public mirror in which the state acts as a curator. Self-constructed and self-organised, this public mirror provides a view on the modern state the public represents.
The Lithuanian state selects artists for a symbolic exhibition by allocating prizes and grants to further the practice of Lithuanian artists. It could be seen as a targeted programming of cultural products. In this way, the state acts as a curator, whose exhibition hall does not have walls, and whose exhibition is on show for decades.
Browsing the pages, the visitor may select and request the artworks presented to see in the flesh. The artworks will then be brought out of storage from behind the white curtain. Or, if the visitor decides not to make a request, he or she may simply watch the actions of other visitors. Requested artworks will be left on display until new requests return them to storage, making it possible to see an ever-changing exposition for visitors who may not even take an active part.
