Apple Inc's surprise warning that it will likely fall short of this quarter...

) surprise warning that it will likely fall short of this quarter’s sales target due to the coronavirus epidemic points to much pain for its chip and other suppliers as well as for rivals who also rely on China to build their products.

Revising guidance set just three weeks ago, the world’s most valuable tech company said while many factories that make iPhones have reopened for work, they were ramping up more slowly than anticipated. “If one component factory stays closed and they’re the only supplier, then everyone has to stop and wait. And if there are two suppliers and one is shut down, then we need the other to do more,” said the source who was not authorized to speak to media and declined to be identified.

“Maybe this is the wake up call. I would be astonished if Apple is the only one,” he said. “Every electronic supply chain runs through China in a big way.”Research firm Canalys estimates both Apple, which outsources much of its manufacturing to Taiwan’s Foxconn , and rival Huawei Technologies [HWT.UL] have 99% of their production in China. The world’s No. 1 smartphone market is likely see sales halve in the first quarter due to the virus, analysts have said.

Need pop ups, in other Country to continue Production

Its time to spread out mfg factory it is mistake concentrating whole mfg to one country it is basic rule to divrsify to othr countries

You left out a major supplier in Europe, but the basic premise is correct. Asia features heavily in all electronics supply chains... Taiwan, Thailand, China etc all provide services in the chain.... this will impact *a lot* of companies this year.

Ya think coronavirus

Unless they're using the virus as an excuse for bad performance overall

The worldwide economic impact is going to be staggering, we're just not far out enough to feel it yet.

It took you that long to figure it out?

'If Apple is hurting due to the coronavirus, its suppliers and rivals likely are too' It's not lookin to good...

US is too expensive. Apple is too expensive. Apple needs China. US needs China. No one needs Trump.

There maybe a lesson to be learned here. Diversify. Create other supply chains....ensure your sustainability.

Well maybe Apple should of had their manufacturing here in the US

LOL 'apple is hurting'.. no they are not hurting. A slight setback maybe?
