Berkane came into the game with the advantage of a 2-1 win in the first-leg thanks to goals by Issoufou Dayo and Adil Tahif while Zamalek were still in the tie after snatching an away goal through Seifeddine Jaziri.
However, Zamalek's pressure paid off on 23 minutes after Ahmed Hamdi fired home a strike in the box after he was teed up by Zizo from a corner and also made it 2-2 on aggregate. The White Knights had a bright start from the break as eight minutes in Ibrahima Ndiaye came close to doubling their lead with a strike that missed narrowly wide.
Berkane were desperate in the closing stages and they made a double change, as Tuisila Kisinda and Youssef Zghoudi replaced both Youssef El Fahli and Youssef El Fahli.
