Young SA jewellery designers grab their chance to dazzle | Citypress

Two major jewellery design competitions, the De Beers Group Designers Initiative Shining Light Awards and Anglo American Platinum’s PlatAfrica, recently announced their winners, which gave young South Africans the opportunity to dazzle on major global stages.

Ledwaba, who is 21 and was born in Pretoria, is a jewellery design and manufacture student at the Tshwane University of Technology. He entered the competition through an opportunity given to him by the De Beers Group Shining Light Awards, as they sought to give young talent the platform from which to enhance their skills and style.

After matric, I was lucky enough to get my aunt to help me apply for jewellery design and manufacturing at Tshwane University of Technology. It really has created the artist and jewellery designer I am today. Weirdly enough, designer Karl Lagerfeld pulled me closer to my dreams, through his attention to detail in design.”
