Xenophobia: 600 Nigerians to fly home immediately, says consul general.

Johannesburg and its surrounding areas have been rocked by a series of deadly attacks on foreigners that started last week, including many directed against Nigerian-owned businesses and properties.

The violence prompted reprisal attacks against South African firms in Nigeria and the temporary closing of South Africa's diplomatic missions in Lagos and Abuja.

OPINIONISTA: We must build a powerful united front against xenophobiaThe ongoing attacks on women and migrants have led to deep pessimism about the state of SA. Social cohesion and human rights seem like a distant dream, and it’s not just the president who has been absent. Civil society and trade unions largely seem missing in action too. It isnt xenophobia, anyone that thinks it is, is an idiot. Its plain criminality.
