World Relays: Blistering Pillay earns silver for SA and first medal in seven years for Van Niekerk

Thanks to a sensational final lap from South African runner Lythe Pillay in the 400m World Relay in the Bahamas, Wayde van Niekerk earned his first medal in seven years.

South Africa claimed silver in the men's 4x400m final at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas on Sunday , earning 400m world record holder Wayde van Niekerk his first medal in seven years, even though he did not run the final race. Having already booked their Paris Olympic qualification in the heats with the help of 2016 Olympic gold medallist Van Niekerk, the South African team, thanks to a sensational final lap charge from Lythe Pillay, powered through to seal second place in the final in Nassau.
