The first witness before the panel was Refugee Mkhize, who said he was a victim of the July unrest. He told the commission he had been shot and in a coma for three weeks and a few days.He also expressed discontent with another witness, Sham Maharaj, who appeared on Tuesday, saying Maharaj had appeared on his “personal agenda”.

“This thing was properly organised, because they were even using security companies from Phoenix and alerting each other how many people they have killed,” Mkhize claimed. He urged the media to use images taken in Phoenix when reporting on the events to avoid misleading the public.

LISTEN | No-one helped us, everything was properly organised, Phoenix unrest victim tells SAHRCThe SAHRC hearing into the July unrest in Phoenix in KwaZulu-Natal continued on Wednesday. A year ago my wife killed my second born and then committed suicide. I'm left with my first born ( 4 years old). I'm unemployed and in my struggle to find employment she slept hungry last night night. Please assist us with any food donation🙏🏻. For my baby girl💔 Refugee? He needs to go home and fix his own country. We don’t need black foreigners here directing hate against minorities. As for his evidence, we saw plenty of video footage of black looters and rioters attacking Indian homes and residences. Go home! Not every Indian that was on the road was there to kill. Maybe on the road where he was situated, but he shud not genralise

What happened in Phoenix are killings, not a massacre, SAHRC hearsPhoenix Ubuntu Forum’s Sham Maharaj said what happened in Phoenix during the July unrest were killings, not a massacre. This Indian man was no victim, he was part of the vigilante group of Indians that massacred blacks in Phoenix, so I'd expect him to utter such words, it's a blatant lie though and I'm not even surprised that white media picked this statement for a head liner, ya'll hate blacks💔
