After 19 years as a professional, Willem Alberts has finally called time on his career. He’ll hang up his boots at the end of the current United Rugby Championship. Alberts made 43 appearances for South Africa. He made his Lions debut in 2005 and will bring the curtain down by playing his final game for the same team.
40-year-old Alberts made a try-scoring debut off the bench for South Africa against Wales in 2010. He went on to score seven tries for his country in total. He was also a standout star for the Sharks and Stade Francais where he was known for his brutal physicality. Hence the nickname!Speaking of bone collectors, Bakkies Botha wasn’t shy to dish out some physicality.
