OPINION | Adults must create safe environments for girls, and teach boys how to behave properly and respectfully towards girls, writes Mabatho Ledwaba.

I am a 20-year-old woman and I feel unsafe in my own country. I watch movies of people living in other countries, walking around safely and confidently without the fears we face here. I use public transport to move around and it feels like an extreme sport. I avoid walking alone almost everywhere I go, and I constantly look over my shoulder to check whether someone is following me.

You have it spot on. It's rather concerning since this issue,that is plagueing our society,is of such magnitude and yet Mr Cele focuses more on alcohol and cigarettes. How can GBV be curbed with this nonchalant attitude where booze and smokes means more than a woman's life
