Police minister Bheki Cele is confident that, eventually, police will get to the bottom of the failed insurrection in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July.

“We are not about to pass on it. We are coming close to [solving] it,” said Cele in an interview with TimesLIVE on Wednesday.

Public criticism of security cluster ministers over the incident led to President Cyril Ramaphosa making radical changes to his cabinet. Ramaphosa labelled the mayhem an “insurrection”, while former defence and military veterans minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula publicly contradicted him. Former state security minister Ayanda Dlodlo and Cele also publicly clashed over an intelligence report related to the looting and riots.

“There is one person who was specifically calling for the burning of three areas in KZN and they were all burnt, like he called. The police are investigating whether this was a coincidence or there were people who were organised to implement the call by this guy,” he said.

This poor old man doesn't know what he is doing in fact the whole Ministers are sucking our taxes for nothing

It seemed like a succesful insurrection, police failed to stop looting and failed to protect communities. It seems like the insurrections success outweighed the police/government reaction. Still to this day.

I see chickens wearing tekkies 🤪

After dealing with the SenzoMeyiwa murder case? 🙄🙄🙄
