WC Community Safety MEC Alan Winde slams Anti-Gang Unit

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape’s murder rate remains largely unchanged despite the Anti-Gang Unit which was launched in November last year to curb the scourge of gang violence in the province, Community Safety MEC Alan Winde said on Wednesday.

“On average, ten people are still being murdered per day in the province. This is despite the launch of an Anti-Gang Unit which was heralded by the African National Congress as the saviour of our communities,” said Winde, adding that these statistics were borne out by reports that in February this year alone, 25 people were killed in Mitchells Plain.

“We’ve seen a growth in attacks in our rural areas, and on our farms. It’s clear that the police’s strategy, if they even have one, isn’t working. I’ll be raising these figures with National Minister Bheki Cele, and demanding an answer as to what they are doing to protect the residents of all our areas,” said Winde.

OPINIONISTA: The constitutional need for independent anti-corruption machinery of stateLawyers and politicians have a penchant for making simple things complicated. It suits them to do so. In the case of lawyers, complex matters attract higher fees, or more kudos for intricate judgments for those lawyers who grace the Bench. In the case of politicians, it assists in bamboozling the long-suffering electorate to wrap questionable decision-making in a great deal of circumlocution and piles of the type of manure that fertilises politics.

OPINIONISTA: Anti-hunting brigade wants to take away part of my cultureIt is difficult to know where to begin to reply to Judy Malone, yet another non-African prescribing to Africans how they should conserve their wildlife and wildlife habitats while having absolutely no idea of how to go about doing this. The sheer volume of her emotive, disingenuous and dishonest claptrap defies belief. peterhflack Conserve their wildlife? Don't you mean eat their wildlife? peterhflack This is such a terrible headline. That’s not even remotely appropriate to the contents of this article. peterhflack What a pile of horse shit. “It’s my culture” 🙄
