VUT loses attempt to appeal an order to pay terminated exec

This was after Johannesburg Labour Court Judge Dephney Mahosi ruled in favour of Segopane Seroka, the former executive director for student support services, on November 2.

According to the judgment, VUT brought the application on the basis that the court erred in making the settlement agreement order. It was the applicant’s further submission that the court erred in fact and in law in failing to properly appreciate the nature of the application before it and by not properly determining the case that the applicant [VUT] was required to meet.

VUT also argued that the court erred in deciding whether there was a fault on its part and that of Seroka in respect of compliance with the obligations of the settlement.
