VW announces launch date and specifications for the racy new duo.

Volkswagen has revealed its long-delayed R models are finally headed for Mzansi, with the Tiguan R to arrive in October and the Golf R early next year.

To earn the R badge, these range-topping VWs have extensive tweaks to their drivetrains and aerodynamics.four-cylinder turbo petrol engine packs 235kW of power and 400Nm of torque. That makes it the most powerful Golf yet and a considerable leap over the GTI’s 180kW and 370Nm, and it is all fed to the road via all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The power’s the same as European versions but torque is 20Nm down because of SA’s lower fuel quality.

The R models also have revised suspension and steering and larger brakes, while the electronic stability control is tuned for raised thresholds and has three modes: normal, sports and off. Both cars reach electronically governed 250km/h top speeds, with the Golf R capable of 270km/h with an optional performance package. The Golf R sprints from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.8 seconds while the heavier Tiguan takes 5.1 seconds. The R models are visually distinguished by aggressive front bumpers with additional cooling apertures, matt chrome mirror caps, R-specific rear diffusers and four tailpipes with an optional Titanium Akrapovic system available.

Standard features in the R models include mobile inductive charging, panoramic sunroof, 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, Adaptive Chassis Control including driving profile selection, Light and Vision Package including high-beam control light assist, Nappa leather seats as well as a choice of three exterior colours .

Lanseria owner Harith surely keen to pick at Comair’s carcassAt five flights a day, it is almost certain Lanseria is not profitable. Moneyweb SouthAfrica aviationnews Great article. It is really important for them to figure out what to do soon. A lot of money has been poured into upgrades at that airport and if Flysafair pulled out there’d be no operator. It doesn't have to be like this. More TLC to General Aviation especially Business Aviation will make Lanseria_Int the No 1 a/port of choice. The Airline Business will return with good times as it's cyclical, but the immediate opportunity is to be more General Aviation friendly.
