Veteran musician turns to politics

The 1980s bubblegum musician Dan Nkosi is one of those independent candidates who are contesting the election in ward 64 in Vosloorus in Ekurhuleni.

Before going it alone, Nkosi was an ANC volunteer for many years, but decided to dump the governing party to stand as an independent. “I must admit, it is not going to be easy. But judging by the reception I got from the door-to-door campaigning and the few meetings I had with the community, I am sure that I will emerge victorious.”

“I am grateful to the ICM because it is helping us as independent candidates by holding workshops to ready us for the battle ahead.”Nkosi said the ICM took him under its wing, providing support with printing posters, pamphlets and other materials for the campaign.
