, and in this time of education institutions closures it’s vital that young people are given all the tools they need in order to continue their mission of upskilling.

All South Africans are feeling the strain of the lockdown, but not all will be affected equally and we cannot leave our young people to suffer endlesslyNow, with the likes of the Covid-19 student support package offered by the department of basic education and the multimedia SABC Covid-19 student support programme our young people are fortunate to be able to continue learning – to an extent.

With this in mind, Afrika Tikkun Services has shifted a number of its initiatives online this year so that young people can use this time to focus on developing new skills that will increase their chances of finding employment beyond the lockdown. We have also moved our work readiness, specialised skills training and learnership courses online to allow for uninterrupted learning. But that said, while we have tried to assist as many candidates as possible with smartphone technology and data, we are not in a position to provide all 2 000 pupils with the tools they require.
