However, shortly after an unusually timed visit to Honduras this week by Brian Nichols, the US assistant secretary of state for the Western Hemisphere, the Castro aide who wrote the manifesto said no final decision has been taken. “The Chinese are much more active than they have been and the question of recognition is very important to them,” he said, adding that Honduras switching to recognise China would be a “big change.”
“We’ve said that to both of the leading candidates directly,” the official told a small group of reporters, without detailing their responses.
