Unrest affects KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng Covid-19 vaccination programmes

She said that, as part of their contingency plan, they would be “working behind the scenes, monitoring developments and assessing the situation several times a day, to ensure continuity”.

“We are in the process of making a formal request through the provincial Cabinet to have the SA National Defence Force avail their services for guarding our facilities and escorting our vehicles, as we carry out our various duties. This will be subject to a security risk assessment,” she added.

Amos Kekana from Winterveld said he missed his Monday appointment at Mabopane Indoor Sports Hall vaccination site as he was scared to leave his house. Instead he went on Thursday. Another resident who had just been vaccinated said she was happy and proud that the people of Mabopane had not done like others in the other parts of the province.
