have been left in the lurch by not receiving the full amount of funding per month they desperately need., but neither NSFAS nor UJ seem to be taking much responsibility for it. With students being shortchanged some R1 320 each month, it is yet another damning development for a government-run initiative that seemingly can’t get its act together.
Given how things have gone so far this 2024 academic year, this likely won’t be the last time we report on major issues at NSFAS. Hopefully though the UJ problem is resolved quickly, and there are not more local tertiary institutions that have made the same glaring error.

NSFAS Uses Universities Again for Student PaymentsThe National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is resorting to using universities to distribute funds to students after efforts to implement a direct payment system failed. NSFAS is currently searching for alternative solutions to the four fintech companies that were running the direct payment system.
