Medical research software mogul Glen de Vries, who flew to space last month with actor William Shatner aboard a rocketship operated by Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, died in a small plane crash in New Jersey on Friday.

Star Trek actor William Shatner poses with Audrey Powers, Blue Origin's vice president of mission and flight operations and a former NASA flight controller and engineer; Chris Boshuizen, the co-founder of satellite company Planet Labs and a former space mission architect for NASA; and Glen de Vries, the co-founder of Medidata Solutions, a life science company during the Blue Origin New Shepard mission NS-18 suborbital flight near Van Horn, Texas, U.S. on October 13, 2021.

The aircraft, a single-engine Cessna 172, went down in a wooded area of a state park near Lake Kemah, New Jersey, about 40 minutes before sunset, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is investigating the crash."Such a tragic loss. Warm and full of life, Glen made us laugh and lit up the room. He was a visionary, and an innovator – a true leader," Bezos, Blue Origin's founder and executive chairman of online retail giant Amazon.

The most notable of the four New Shepard passengers was Shatner, the 90-year-old actor best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk on the original 1960s television show"Star Trek." The Oct. 13 launch made Shatner the oldest person ever to fly into space.

Editorial | Mr President, please protect whistle blowers | CitypressSeven months after testifying before the Zondo commission, former university lecturer turned whistle-blower Athol Williams fled the country this week. The best way to protect whistleblowers: just read a riot act to these 3 overrated turtles who are sleeping on their jobs! Witnesses wouldn't be bothered if the law enforcement agencies were doing their work, chasing crooks implicated at State Capture Commission & elsewhere. That will never happen, they can't protect even the children, They're raped and murdered every day,not mentioning the women,so the whistleblowers are on their own and they'll never be protected, not in this country 💔😥 How can he protect people who are going to put him and his colleagues in jail? If you still believe in Ramaphosa's lies and poor leadership, wake up and drink coffee.
