The recent storms, which caused rough seas, intense winds and heavy rain over the Western Cape, resulted in a record number of stranded hatchlings washing up along our shores. ‘Far exceeding the numbers that our Turtle Conservation Centre expects for this time of year,’ the Aquarium said in a statement.

Over the last few weeks, the Turtle Conservation Centre has had its hands full with stranded turtle hatchlings due to the recent Western Cape storms that washed them ashore.

The hatchlings, which weigh between 30g and 100g, are not strong enough to fight against the rough seas. The previous record for the number of hatchlings stranded in a season was 250.Explore Cape Town and its surroundings with these incredible deals on cars for under R100 000.
