JOHANNESBURG - National Treasury has declined Eskom’s request to be exempted from disclosing irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditures in its annual financial statements.
In a statement released on Wednesday, National Treasury said it received 56 comments on the government gazette, and based on those comments, it decided not to grant Eskom its request.Eskom had sought a three-year exemption from disclosing any financial irregularities in its financial statements. National Treasury said from the comments it received, most agreed that irregular expenditure did not automatically equate to fraud and corruption - adding that it indicated the performance of state-owned entities.
